plasma+some apps. So yes, I use a standard kde session
with some replacements.... like I don't use plasma...
But then again, plasma is just a small part of kde.
The only thing that could be a little mysterious is
the desktop, as it's not publicly available. I'd be
happy to clarify anything else, but if you meant
the desktop shell, then that hardly qualifies as
a desktop environment.
are the desktop environment. This is not the
case, you can use any panel you want instead of plasma
desktop, some examples: [link] , [link] , [link] .
Plus, there are a lot of docks and other stuff that
you can use as a panel.
to draw the background wallpaper you can use something
like feh: [link]
Like I said, I do not use plasma, so no, the panels
on my desktop shell are not plasma
-> not kde default
-> not available publicly.
BUT as I mentioned above, there are tons of
panel projects you can use instead of plasma.
Plasma is the desktop shell that comes with kde.
I'm not really sure what your question was but
I use kde with a third-party desktop shell.
on my desktop shell are not plasma

I understand
Why are you so hellbent on not using plasma?
It's not /that/ bad. It should not be slow or
anything like that. I just don't like it.
I don't like how it's programmed (everything
runs in one process so if one plasmoid crashes,
the whole plasma "thing" crashes), and I don't
like the click here and drag there and then
pull that thing up from there and.... type
interface, I like to config via text files.
kde is very proud of plasma, it's one of
the "kde technologies". kde will never
have an official "alternative" to the
plasma desktop.
Oh, and I did not code this desktop shell.
I just use it.
for plasma that comes with bespin.
if(blur.isActive())
disableBlurRightNow();
Blur makes things slooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow,
I mean it, anything with blur is slooooooooooooow.
On my netbook with gma500 (seriously worst gfx card
ever) see here: [link]
And it works fast enough (nothing works fast on
this particular computer, nothing.). I don't
however use any kinda of christmas-lighting
like compositing or any other spectacles
like transparency. But. it. works.
Oh, and I'm talking about plasma. It's mostly
my wife that uses this computer tho.
