Sin City Rox!

Sin city is the best movie ever made. I own my own legal copy
of it. As should everybody, there should be a law: thy should
own a copy of sin city or thy should gtfo.

Okey, now that that's out of the way, I've long wanted to do
mac-esque sin city screenshot that looks beautiful, I still haven't
but! now I at least have tried.

Any kind of insults very welcome, I always enjoy a good troll.

I need to try a dark color setup for KDE! Thanks for this new inspiration!
There is only my panel problem. I still had no time to solve it. *grml
I still use the standard KDE plasma scrap vehicle and I really dislike it. But sometime... someday... :)

if u do have gnome and kde on ur puter u could just
easily setup an own sessionscript or smth... that's
what everybody did earlier anyways, modified the
startscript to start some gnome services and some
kde.... so I guess (haven't tried it myself, no need)
u could just add plasma-desktop to startup progs,
then disable it and make unity/gnome-hell/bmpanel/
pypanel/tint2/<insert name of panelsystem here>
start instead... recently I started pulling out my
hair because of akonadi and nepomuk... I'm sure
these are very good but I just plain can't stand them,
so now I'm at war with compiling kde without those :)

whops! this made for a long rant... sry man, hope I
didn't bore u to death :D

Soooooo... here is my first KDE shot with GNOME panel (bg image cloned from you ). [link]
I use GTK+ engines for KDE apps and it looks fine.
Because Kwin shows no shadows on windows and menus I use Compiz and Emerald (and I really like it).
Only menus in right klick on desktop looks ugly.
But I'm working on it.
Thanks for all your declarations my friend! And never think I could be bored! :)

Hehe, that actually looks very good, usually the
gtk-qt qt-gtk engines looks.... ...well, questionable.
Seems there has been some serious effort from the
qt team making it work real good. Yeah I c u cloned
my panel haha, I've been meaning to change that
but I'm very lazy when it comes to the desktop, I'm
mostly fiddling with how the apps look, I've had that
panel for a very long time now.

So, u don't get shadows with kwin? u do have desktop
effects activated? what deco do u use? what kde version?

I know that kwin > 4.7 dropped shadow plugin support
and moved it to the core, so the decos now paint shadows,
so in case u use bespin u have to update to latest bespin
and then u get shadows automatically after restarting kwin.

Anyways, u see u can use both kde and gnome within
each other no problem. The only thing is, u have to
have 2 (or more) toolkits loaded in ram all the time.
That is no biggie nowadays, however, there are some
people with a ten foot pole up their ass, who seems to
think the money they spent on ram, is best used if the
ram doesn't get used at all. Pay no attention to these
people.

I tested this combination in two installations on two machines. In the shot you can see a very old KDE 4.4. The other installation is KDE 4.7. and the shadow problem is only in menus. I hope I can fix this and will make an new shot next days from this installation.
After starting my desktop it needs 680 MB of RAM, I think that's not too much. :)

Oh it's 4.4 :D that is kinda old, shadow problem in
menues? with kwin or compiz? I really haven't used
compiz for like..... 5 years or so, heck, it wasn't
even called compiz when I used it. Atm, I've no
problem whatsoever related to shadows, bespin has
it's own built in shadow system which is lightning
fast and looks very smooth :) paints shadows on
docks/tooltips/dialogs/menues..... no problem.

Quality modding as usual. Personally, I think your title text and title buttons are a little too close to the edge.

That's ur idea of an insult? :D kidding, thx man, yeah I know
I don't use a huge titlebar... but with the uno feature the
toolbar kinda becomes part of the titlebar so I've enough
space I can quickly click and drag to move.

Ah yeah that makes sense then. Yeah I know
cradle of filth, used to listen to them in
my teens. The older stuff is kinda nice
but newer kinda sucks. I haven't listened
much to darkthrone tho.
