It doesn't look that way. I changed back to windows after my hdd started misbehaving. I had been formatting my partitions and trying to merge them with the linux partition when my hdd started becoming really slow and making weird noises whenever I started browsing my local files But now I want to install linux again in a virtaulbox so I can still enjoy kde, the terminal and continue learning about it. Is there a distro you can recommend me with really good up to date kde support and light on the system? Am considering Mageia since it's second place on distrowatch. Wonder if there are any distros that are built with be shell as their default dm. That would be pretty impressive especially seeing how versatile the be shell is (even more than kde-plasma-desktop.)
sounds to me like you should buy a new hdd and backup important data immediately!
About the distro, well, any distro offers kde that's up-to-date. I'm not sure what I should recommend here and I haven't tried mageia myself. However, if you want something that's centered around kde, maybe try chakra? [link]
AFAIK there is no distro that from default provides be.shell, ( I compile from source aswell ) and that really shouldn't matter.
all the distributions /I/ would install on /MY/ computer are distros that dont provide any kinda graphical install or anything like that... so I can setup everything the way /I/ want. However, I understand that most ppl like the easy way, that in this case seems like chakra to me.
Funny thing is my hdd now is working fine, no weird noises and is running fine on windows. Still, I do take that incident as a warning, perhaps it is time I upgrade. Guess I better start saving up. :/ Unfortunately with chakra it doesn't seem to work on virtualbox . I had tried it previously with no success otherwise it had been top of my list. Perhaps its time I give those more challenging distros a try. I have used linux for a while now, and since for now I have decided to stick with windows for a while and rather install linux on virtualbox it's not like I have anything to lose.
As for kate, that's look very nice, but in my opinion leather should be more lighter(to associate text editor with real notebook with leather cover). May be you interesting to try something like this [link] (right version).
